A forensic examination is being carried out at the site of a fatal road traffic collision in Co. Monaghan overnight.

A man in his 20s died in the two-car accident, which happened at Colnoony, Drumully, Clones, just before 4am this morning.

The 22-year-old was the front seat passenger of one of the cars and the 21-year-old driver, also a man, was not injured.

The 28-year-old man who was driving the other car is being treated for non-life threatening injuries he sustained in the crash.

The road remains closed, with local diversions in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
