Singing sensation Brian Kennedy is to make a special guest appearance at the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony this Saturday which will officially begin the Naas Festival of Lights.The singer will give a special guest performance of his new single ‘Christmas Morning’ at the outdoor event which begins at 5pm outside the Town Hall. Naas is getting all dressed up for Christmas this year with what is described as the most exciting event programme ever staged by Naas Town Council. On this Saturday 17 November a themed parade of light from local schools, which leaves The Fair Green and the Church of Our Lady and St David on Sallins Road at 4.30pm, will converge at the Town Hall at 5pm. Mayor Callaghan will officially turn on the Christmas Lights. A child from each school will symbolically hand Mayor Callaghan a lantern to light the big Christmas tree and illuminate the town. The parades are led by costumed characters from the Moat Theatre followed by a sea of beautiful handmade lanterns carried by children from each of the local communities. The Moat Theatre Singers will also perform at the town Hall as the children arrive and with the festive Christmas Markets and beautiful window displays, the town will capture the magic of Christmas like never before. Mayor Cllr Willie Callaghan said “Naas will sparkle this year and we hope this will be the most memorable Christmas tree lighting ceremony that the town has ever seen. As Mayor, I want to sincerely thank Brian Kennedy for taking time out of his hectic schedule to perform for us and I also wish to thank all the schools, singers, local groups and businesses for the effort they have made to make this event so special”The Festival of Light in Naas will sparkle and shine as over 200 children will take part in the spectacle to officially launch Christmas in Naas. Santa Claus will also make a special guest appearance with Naas Fire Brigade to see who is being naughty and nice and help the festive spirit soar. As the parades of light will be departing from both ends of the town the road will be closed between 4pm and 6pm to allow the children to make their way to the Town Hall. Naas will be a winter wonderland for the festive season with The Festival of Light, the colourful and festive Christmas markets every Saturday from 17 November 8 December, the enchanting live crib in the grounds of the Church of Our Lady and St David on the Sallins Road on 22 and 23 December, live music on the streets every weekend with a guest performance from Boy band Level 5 on 15 December. There is free parking every Saturday and Sunday in Town Council car parks from 17 November to 31 December. There will also be extra trading hours, the big Christmas draw with €5000 worth of prizes to be won and exclusive in-store promotions taking place in the shops with colourful window displays and festive cheer. The Moat Club Annual Christmas Pantomime – SHOW WHITE & THE SEVEN DWARFS – will run in The Moat Theatre from Thursday 6 December to Saturday 15 December. As always it will be packed full of laughs and mischief is assured from the Seven Dwarfs.
