A BOOK of Condolences for the people who have lost their lives in the conflict in Gaza has been opened at Áras Chill Dara in Naas and will be available for the public to sign until Friday 15 August.
At the July monthly meeting of Kildare CoCouncil the Mayor of Kildare Cllr Fiona O’Loughlin, held a minutes silence at the start of the meeting in commemoration of those who have lost their lives in Gaza.
Under Mayor’s business, following consultation with all group leaders, she also issued a statement condemning the loss of life in Gaza and supporting all measures for ceasefire.
“We have all been haunted by the photographs of slain young children emerging from Gaza and absolutely condemn the loss of life over the last few weeks,” she said.
“Coming from the island of Ireland, that has had its own conflict, we could offer hope that peace is possible.”
Later in the meeting however the mayor ruled an emergency motion to discuss the conflict out of order on the basis that it was not relevant to the work of Kildare Co Council and that it was submitted late.
