THREE third-year students in Coláiste Lorcáin, Castledermot recently won second place in a national science film-making competition run by the National University of Ireland, Galway.

Isaac Akinsete, Finn Doyle and Óisín Hott, with the help of their teacher, Sharon Gavigan, created a video called Gravity Explained.

Out of more 200 videos from 2,000 students in over 100 schools, the young science lovers from Coláiste Lorcáin came in second place.

The Castledermot team learned of their victory during science week when they received a prize of €300 while their short film was also screened at the Galway Science and Technology Festival Exhibition in NUI Galway.
The exhibition is one of the largest science festivals in Europe and the largest in Ireland, with up to 30,000 people descending on the university campus to enjoy science shows and exhibits.
