THE Toastmasters Club in Athy is on the move again and and starts its new season tonight (Tuesday).

The club, which meet on the first and third Tuesday of the month, will take up residence at the Clanard Court Hotel having previously held their meetings in the back bar in Ckancy’s and the Church of Ireland Hall.

President Maggie Owens is very excited by the move.“For the past year we have been in the back bar in Clancy’s. Emma and Ger were fantastic to us and we are very grateful to them for giving us the space but with 20 members there just wasn’t enough space so we are moving to the Clanard Court Hotel. It’s brilliant as finding a venue with enough space was an issue for us, particularly when you consider that we were in danger of closing down not too long ago. We currently have 20 members and we are expanding all the time.”

Maggie said they welcome any new members who want to join the club. “We now have a mentoring system in place where anyone who joins will have a person who will be assigned to them to help them along with public speaking and leadership skills and with their confidence generally. Toastmasters is very educational and it is excellent for people who join for different reasons such as to gain the confidence to do a presentation at work or to make a speech. However it is also very entertaining and you get to hear about a variety of different subjects on any given night. What we hear is that people who come along really enjoy it and they always say why didn’t I come along earlier.”

Athy Toastmasters Club meet at 7.50pm on the first and third Tuesday of each month at the Clanard Court Hotel. To find out more log on to the Athy Toastmasters Facebook page.
