A WOMAN taking cash from an ATM machine in Newbridge was left shocked and traumatised after she was approached by another woman who produced a knife and demanded the cash.
The incident took place at the Bank of Ireland ATM in the town centre on Saturday evening at 9.10pm.
The woman had just withdrawn a sum of cash from the machine when she was approached from behind by a female who brandished a knife and told her to hand over the money. According to Sgt Seamus Rothwell of Newbridge garda station, the cash, termed “a small amount” was handed over and the culprit then fled in the direction of Charlotte Street.
The victim described the woman as being small, around five feet three inches in height, and of very slight build.
Her face was covered with a scarf and she wore black trousers and a black top. Of unknown age, she is described as having spoken with an Irish accent.
Gardaí are checking CCTV footage from the area in question and would appreciate the assistance of anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious on Main Street/Charlotte Street at around 9pm or after it on Saturday night.
Newbridge gardaí are also investigating a robbery at the Roseberry Stores in Roseberry, which took place on Friday evening last 26 January at 6.05pm.
A man entered the shop and produced a knife, demanding cash from the assistant, who handed over some money before the man ran from the store.
Described as being around six feet tall and of slim build, the man was wearing dark clothing and had a balaclava-type covering of plastic material (described as being like a swimming cap) partially covering his face.
He is also described as having a lot of facial freckles and speaking with “a strong Dublin accent”.
