New Athy art exhibition explores arts and disability

Painting from Athy artist Rebekah Roche's new art exhibition, 'Despite it All'

A NEW exhibition is opening in Athy over the weekend titled ‘Despite it All’ – an exhibition about arts and disability.

The exhibition, put together by Athy artist Rebekah Roche, will launch on Saturday, November 15 at 3pm and all are welcome to drop in.

The collection presents a deeply personal series of realist paintings that foreground the intersection of art, disability, and resilience. Living with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), Rebekah Roche transforms the limitations of her condition into a space for reflection and creative expression.

Set within the confines of domestic interiors, these paintings reveal both the beauty and the burden of restricted mobility – environments shaped by medical apparatus and the daily negotiation of illness. Through her practice, Roche exposes the quiet strength required to inhabit these spaces and invites viewers to consider the broader challenges women face in navigating healthcare systems and societal expectations.

The exhibition stands as a testament to endurance, visibility, and the transformative power of art.

Visit Art House on Leinster St, Athy to view this fantastic exhibition.
