Admissions open for new Kildare special school

WORK is progressing on the new Ros Glas Community Special School in Monasterevin, which is due to open during the 2026/27 academic year.
The school, under the patronage of Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board (KWETB), is enrolling students aged four to 18 with autism and complex learning needs.
The school will open with three classes of six students, with hopes of growing to facilitate more students in the years ahead.
Classes will be available at both primary and post-primary level, with education and support tailored to the individual needs of each student. Each student will have an Individual Education Plan, with staff working alongside multidisciplinary teams and families to support their educational, social and personal development.
The school will be based at the former St Peter’s Boys School.
Minister for Agriculture Martin Heydon TD welcomed the news, saying: “Great to see the new Ros Glas Community Special School in Monasterevin taking shape! With work progressing and the Principal appointed, the school is another step closer to welcoming students.”
He added that applications for the 2026/27 school year are open from 24 August to 11 September 2026.
“This remains a very welcome addition to the provision of special education in Kildare,” added Minister Heydon.
