A MAN who allegedly threatened a woman with a hammer on the streets of Athy but who pleaded not guilty, will have to return to court in the spring for a hearing.

Andrew Hinton (38) of Ardrew Heights, Athy appeared in Athy District Court recently (13 October) charged with production of an article, and making threats to kill on Woodstock Way on 25 July, 2023.

“This is threats to kill and cause serious harm,” noted Judge Desmond Zaidan.

“Two hammers were allegedly produced on a woman, looking for an ex-partner of her,” said Inspector Seamus Houlihan.

“Kane and Hinton got out of a vehicle with hammers and threatened a woman,” said Sergeant Dave Hanrahan when asked to outline the details of the case.

“What time of day? Any witnesses?” asked the judge.

“It was two in the afternoon, but there is no evidence in the précis that there were any onlookers,” conceded Inspector Houlihan.

At Mr Hinton’s last appearance in May, Sergeant Dave Hanrahan then told Judge Zaidan that: “It was believed to have been an alleged drugs matter”.

He was remanded on continuing bail until 23 February for a full hearing Mr Hinton’s co-defendant James Kane (59), also from Ardrew Heights, was also listed this week for appearance but was not called. No reason was given.

Mr Kane is charged with the production of the hammer.
