A MOTORIST who pleaded guilty to driving without insurance was banned from driving for six years when he appeared before Carlow District Court last week. Nelly Badakin, 20 Moneen View, Rheban Manor, Athy pleaded guilty to driving without insurance and failing to produce an insurance cert when he was stopped by gardaí on the N80, Staplestown, Carlow on 2 April last.

Judge Geraldine Carthy noted that this was Mr Badakin’s third such offence but that he hadn’t been disqualified from driving before.

Solicitor John O’Sullivan explained that his client had avoided disqualification before because he did have insurance on one car but not on the one he was driving when stopped by gardaí. He added that in relation to the case before the court, 21-year-old Mr Badakin was not insured.

Judge Carthy banned him from driving for six years and fined him €200. Recognaisances were fixed in the event of an appeal.
