Kildare captain Kevin Feely says he is progressing well as he attempts to regain full fitness ahead of Kildare’s opening Leinster Championship game against either Offaly or Laois on 19 April.

The 33-year-old played the full game in Kildare’s opening two National League matches, when the team collected three points, and was then forced off after an hour of the game against Derry.

Feely was a frustrated spectator on the sideline as Kildare lost to Cavan and then started on the bench against Meath before introduced at half time that evening.

He was back in the starting team for the trip to Cork but barely lasted ten minutes on that chastening evening in Pairc Uí Rinn and the injury that evening meant he missed out on the final round against Louth.

Speaking at this week’s launch of the Leinster Championships at the Kilashee Hotel in Naas, Feely said he is on the right track to be available for Kildare’s quarter-final clash and is nearing taking part in full training.

“Coming close to it. It was the Cork game so we're kind of two and a half weeks into it now and I'm back running and back moving as well, just maybe not up to 100% yet but I'll keep moving through the gears over the next couple of weeks and will certainly be trying my best to be back in action for the first game,” said the Athy midfielder.

He said that he will be working closely with the Kildare medical team as he steps up his training.

“I'll be putting my full faith and trust in the medical team in Kildare who are as good as you can get so it's important that I keep myself accountable to them and just follow their instruction to the letter of the law and they'll look after me for sure,” said Feely.

Watch out for a much more in depth with Feely in the build-up towards Kildare’s opening Championship game.
