Former All-Star completes transfer to Kildare club
Conor Mortimer in action for Mayo against Kerry in the 2004 All-Ireland Final. He also played in the 2006 decider and has now completed a transfer to Kildare junior club Ardclough
Ardclough have certainly landed one of the more interesting transfers of recent times after former the transfer of former Mayo attacker Conor Mortimer was confirmed.
The now 44-year-old played in the 2004 and 2006 All-Ireland finals as Mayo were beaten by Kerry on both occasions. He finished as the Championship’s top scorer in 2006 and was awarded an All-Star in that year such were the level of his performances.
The GAA has approved a transfer from Mortimer’s home club Shrule-Glencorrib, with whom the former All-Star last played 10 years ago, when they took eventual All-Ireland intermediate club champions Westport to a replay in that season’s county championship semi-final.
If he does tog out for Ardclough, it won’t be Mortimer’s first foray into the Kildare Championship as he had a spell as manager of Monasterevin, and more recently coached Kilbride in the Meath SFC.
