An Irish documentary film, From that Small Island, has won an award at a film festival in Southern California.

The documentary has received the Outstanding International Documentary Award at the Newport Beach International Film Festival, one of the region’s largest film festivals.

From that Small Island: The Story of the Irish is a four-part documentary series and accompanying book that explores the global history of Irish identity and diaspora, challenging traditional, Anglo-centric views of Irish history.

It is narrated by Colin Farrell, created by writer and filmmaker Bríona NicDhiarmada, and produced by Coco Content. It was directed by Rachael Moriarty and Peter Murphy, and Trinity College professor Jane Ohlmeyer acted as historical consultant and associate producer.

Screened by RTÉ in June, the film was also shown across the world in the US,  Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Dubai and Doha.

It was an official selection at the Galway International Film Fleadh and is currently an official selection at The Hague International Film Festival. It is also nominated for ARFF//Berlin International Film Festival to take place in late November.
