The launch of the 2026 Goffs Thyestes Chase took place in fitting surroundings at Closutton, the home of Irish Champion Trainer and record winner of the Goffs Thyestes Chase, Willie Mullins. The event marked an exciting start to the new year and set the tone for what promises to be another memorable renewal of one of Irish racing’s most prestigious handicap chases.
A group of valued sponsors from Gowran Park were in attendance, along with local TD Peter “Chap” Cleere and several Directors from Gowran Park. Guests were also delighted to meet last year’s Goffs Thyestes Chase winner Nick Rockett, whose remarkable season culminated in a historic victory in the Aintree Grand National, adding further prestige to the race’s roll of honor.
The morning provided an excellent opportunity to celebrate the rich history of the Goffs Thyestes Chase, its unique place in the National Hunt calendar, and the strong links between Gowran Park, owners, trainers, sponsors, and the local community.
Speaking at the launch, Eddie Scally, General Manager of Gowran Park, said:
“The Goffs Thyestes Chase continues to be a cornerstone of our racing season and a race that regularly produces horses capable of going on to achieve greatness on the biggest stages. To launch the 2026 renewal at Closutton, and to welcome our sponsors, directors and guests while celebrating Nick Rockett’s incredible achievements, made for a fantastic morning. There is a real sense of excitement building, and we’re very much looking forward to welcoming everyone back to Gowran Park on January 22nd.”

Henry Beeby, Group Chief Executive of Goffs, title sponsor of the Thyestes Chase, added:
"Goffs Thyestes Chase Day is a true highlight of the Irish National Hunt Season and is a race and an occasion with which we are proud to be associated. Nick Rockett was a wonderful winner last year, and to see him go on to Grand National glory at Aintree is testament to the quality of the Goffs Thyestes – a race that has been won by so many greats throughout the years including Arkle, the most famous graduate of our sales.
"2026 is our fifteenth year sponsoring the Goffs Thyestes Chase and there is no better way to mark the start of the inspection period for the Goffs Arkle Sale, Ireland’s leading store sale.”
The Goffs Thyestes Chase 2026 will take place at Gowran Park on Thursday, January 22nd, and is expected to attract a high-quality field and a large attendance once again.
