“IT DOESN’T get lower than that!” declared a judge when convicting a woman for stealing over €1,000 from blind people.

Judge Desmond Zaidan was addressing Stephanie Connors (36) from White Oaks Green in Newbridge at a recent sitting of Naas District Court.

Sergeant Dave Hanrahan, prosecuting, told the court that Ms Connors was charged with the theft of €1,120 from the NCBI on Main Street, Newbridge on 10 September 2022.

“NCBI? From the National Council for the Blind?” asked an incredulous judge.

“It doesn’t look good,” conceded Ms Connors’ solicitor Seamus Boyle.

“She wasn’t in employment at the time,” he added in mitigation.

“It doesn’t get lower than that,” said the judge, shaking his head, as he fined Ms Connors €1,200, giving her three months to pay.
