A MAN who pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing pornographic images of children on his phone was sent forward this week (21 May) for trial at the next sittings of Naas Circuit Court which begin on 3 June.

The man appeared at a closed door sitting in Naas District Court and there was consent for the defendant to go forward on a signed plea.

Sergeant Dave Hanrahan told how, following a search of the man’s address on 2 February 2022, gardaí discovered “images of child porn on his mobile”, contrary to the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act.

“In terms of the material concerned, where does this fall? Worst, medium, or lower end?” asked Judge Desmond Zaidan.

“I don’t have that,” said Sgt Hanrahan, “A sergeant from Dundrum (Garda National Child Protection Unit) investigated”.

“There were at least 500 images discovered,” he added.

He then told the court that “there are no issues with the accused’s fitness to stand trial from the prosecution”.

The judge said to the defence solicitor.

“I direct that all these images and videos be released to you guys”.

“No summary allegations?” he then asked, and when the sergeant confirmed “no”, Judge Zaidan formally sent the defendant forward to appear in the circuit court.
