WHEN gardaí searched a man at the Electric Picnic, they found €4,360 worth of drugs in his trousers and in his socks.
Garda Sergeant Jason Hughes said that while gardaí were on duty at Cosby Hall during the Electric Picnic festival on 3 September 2022, they stopped and searched a man. They found €1,740 worth of ketamine, €1,610 of cocaine, two tablets of MDMA (€20) and €990 worth of LSD hidden in his trousers and down his socks.
Leo Henry from Roseberry Hill, Roseberry, Newbridge, Co Kildare pleaded guilty to four counts of possessing drugs for his own use and to four counts of possessing drugs for sale or for supply.
Defending barrister Anne Doyle said that Mr Henry had been carrying in the drugs for another person and had been offered €500 for doing so.
She said: “The offence took place in 2022, when he was 20. He has grown up a lot since then. He took it to the Electric Picnic for a friend. He was not selling it for himself. He was offered a sum of €500 for doing so.”
Judge Susan Fay convicted Mr Henry for possessing cocaine for sale or supply and imposed a six-month custodial sentence suspended for two years and the same sentence for possessing ketamine for sale or supply. She also convicted the defendant of possessing LSD for sale or supply and imposed a four-month sentence suspended for two years, with all three sentences to run consecutively, and she imposed a 12-month supervisory order.
She also instructed Mr Henry to engage positively with the Probation Service and to undergo urinalysis tests when instructed by it.
