“YOU don’t look a gift horse in the mouth,” a judge warned a woman who has taken over a year to pay restitution to another woman whose window she broke.
Amy Delaney (20) from River View, Dun Bhroin, Athy appeared in Athy District Court on 14 April to finalise a €200 order that she had originally pleaded guilty on 11 March 2025, but was put back until 8 July for the money to be paid, or face six months in jail.
Ms Delaney had been convicted of the criminal damage to a downstairs bathroom window in Woodstock Way, Townspark Athy on 21 February last year.
However this week Judge Desmond Zaidan learned that a relative of Ms Delaney’s had brought money to court, which was discovered to be “not exactly €100”.
“I’m doing my best,” said Ms Delaney.
However, this prompted the judge to warn the defendant.
“I’ll see what I can do,” offered defending solicitor Jackie McManus.
The judge gave her one more chance to pay the balance in a fortnight (28 April), or face the six months.
