Attempts to nominate a future taoiseach failed on Wednesday after a series of Dáil disruptions over opposition speaking time.

The final result from all membership, councillor and parliamentary party votes was 93.9% in favour and 6.1% against.

The Taoiseach will then be nominated when the Dáil returns on January 22nd. It is expected that Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin will take on this role.
