The funeral of the former teacher, politician, broadcaster and author, who died last Thursday at the age of 87, took place in her native Athlone.

Mary O’Rourke will lie in repose at The Strand funeral home in Athlone, Co Westmeath on Sunday October 6th from 3pm to 6pm.

She was first elected to the Dáil as a Fianna Fáil TD in the Longford-Westmeath constituency in 1982 and served as Deputy Leader of the party from 1994 to 2002.
