Man denies stealing coffee from Athy shop

Coffee, and the dark side...
“Yout couldn’t make it up!” laughed the judge, when he heard the man before him was charged with the theft of a coffee – of a brand called ‘Frank and Honest’.
Appearing in Athy District Court last week (14 January) was Edgaras Sirutavicius (36) of Bray Apartments, Athy, who was pleading not guilty to the alleged theft from Pettitt's SuperValu of the beverage valued at €3.50, on 23 November. “There was no evidence of violence?” asked Judge Desmond Zaidan.
“No, judge,” assured prosecuting Sergeant Dave Hanrahan. “Okay, I’ll accept jurisdiction. Talk to a lawyer and I can deal with this today,” said the judge to the defendant, before putting the case on second calling, basically adjourning it until later in the day to allow Mr Sirutavicius seek advice. When recalled, the defendant had Cairbre Finian in his corner, and he confirmed that his client was pleading not guilty.
Judge Zaidan adjourned the case until 27 May for hearing, then asked: "Is there CCTV?”.
“Yes,” said Sgt Hanrahan.
