“IF I see you a third time you won’t like it,” a judge warned a man before him for his second appearance in five days for breaching a protection order.

The man who can’t be named to protect the identity of the applicant, appeared from custody behind the closed doors of Naas District Court on 18 September, having been there previously the Saturday before.

“Weren’t you here in last week?” enquired Judge Desmond Zaidan when the man was escorted into the dock.

“Yeah, Saturday,” replied the man.

“You made me come here specially on Saturday,” said the judge. “This is your second breach in the last 10 days, if the gardaí object (to bail) you’ll stay in jail until your trial."

“Not to bail, but to some of the conditions,” said the arresting garda.

“You’re lucky,” said the judge. “Now, you have to comply with all court orders but trying to take the law into your own hands, you’re attracting trouble."

The defendant said: “I didn’t do anything!”

“That’s the exact words you said to me on Saturday!” said the judge.

“If the guards bring you before me for a third time, I’ll refuse bail,” warned the judge.

“You’ve breached a protection order granted to your wife (on 14 May), the mother of your wife, and kids,” said the judge.

“Keep the peace, maintain sobriety, if you’re seen drunk in public that’s not maintaining sobriety, and they can arrest you. Do you understand? “

“I do,” said the defendant.

“You said that on Saturday,” said the judge.

“I didn’t intentionally do anything,” said the respondent.

“Famous last words,” said the judge as he remanded the man on continuing bail to re-appear on 19 February.
