Brian McClair and Stiliyan Petrov have been announced to play against Allenwood Celtic this summer.

Allenwood Celtic AFC are celebrating the club’s 35-year anniversary this summer with a “Legends in the Wood” fundraiser, where they will host a team of Premier League legends.

An exhibition match is set to take place on 23rd May at the club’s grounds, with players from across the premier league going up against Allenwood Celtic’s team of local legends.

Some of the legends already confirmed to play include five-time Premier League winner and two-time Champions League winner with Manchester United, Wes Brown, former Leeds United, Everton and Leicester City striker, Jermain Beckford, and former Manchester United, Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers winger, Keith Gillespie.

This week the club announced the addition of another two legends set to join the team.

Joining Beckford up front will be a Scottish icon, formerly of Manchester United and Celtic, Brian McClair.

The 62-year-old bagged 88 goals in his 355 appearances for Manchester United from 1987 to 1998. Before that, he four years at Celtic, scoring 99 goals in just 145 appearances.

Another Celtic legend joining the team is the former Bulgarian midfielder, Stiliyan Petrov.

Petrov was a cult hero at Celtic Park from 1999 to 2006 before joining Aston Villa where he spent seven year with the Premier League club.

There will be a number of opportunities to see the Legends in action. There will be planned meet-and-greet sessions, an exclusive gala dinner in the Keadeen Hotel in Newbridge, as well as the match itself.

Allenwood Celtic was founded in 1991 from humble beginnings and has seen huge growth and success over their three and a half decades.

With membership increasing year on year, the club announced their future development plans which include a new clubhouse and full-size AstroTurf pitch.

Their goal is provide the best facilities for their members and future members for generations to come.

Celtic recently received the FAI Club Mark Entry Level award, and they are well and truly on their way to achieving their goals.
