TWO men who allegedly threatened a woman with hammers on the streets of Athy have pleaded not guilty, and will return to court in the Autumn for a hearing date.
James Kane (59) of Ardrew Heights, Athy and Andrew Hinton (38), with an address elsewhere in the same estate appeared in Athy District Court recently both charged with Section 11 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act – production of an article on Woodstock way on 25 July 2023.
“Kane and Hinton got out of a vehicle with hammers and threatened a woman,” alleged Sergeant Dave Hanrahan when asked to outline the details of the case.
“Do you know why?” asked Judge Desmond Zaidan.
“We’re not fully sure, but we believe they were looking for her partner,” said the sergeant.
The judge accepted this, and remanded the men on continuing bail to return to court on 13 October for a full hearing.
