A woman appeared before Naas District Court seeking protection from her daughter who had been allegedly verbally and physically assaulting her.

The woman said that her “erratic” daughter argues with her, smokes in the house against her wishes, and would not allow her to put a ring doorbell camera at her house.

On 21 August, it is alleged that the woman asked her daughter for €20 to put towards household bills, which sparked an aggressive incident where the daughter dropped her takeaway food and grabbed her mother’s arms attempting to hit her, as well as threatening to “knife” her.

The woman called the gardaí and was advised to seek a protection order.

The woman told the court that her daughter has been taking drugs and smoking THC vapes and recalled a separate incident where her daughter kicked in her door and accused her of taking her drugs away.

Judge Miriam Walsh said: “She’s on drugs?”

“Yes,” replied her mother.

“What a waste of a life,” said Judge Walsh.

The woman explained that she has been dealing with this behaviour from her daughter for a number of years.

“I had no power until she turned 18,” said the woman.

Judge Walsh decided to grant the protection order, and scheduled the woman to come back in the new year to pursue a safety order.
