JOE MALLON MOTORS SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GROUP D – ROUND 2

NAAS 4-21 EADESTOWN 1-14

Naas showed why many people would see them as favourites to win this year’s Joe Mallon Motors Senior Football Championship title with an awesome second half display to blow Eadestown away.

They needed to dig deep as in the first half, Emmet Bolton’s Eadestown side were excellent and posed plenty of problems.

They kicked four two-pointers in that first half but goals in 16th minute by Dermot Hanafin and an excellent individual effort by Daragh Kirwan in the 27th minute helped Naas into a 2-8 to 0-11 half time lead.

Naas really kicked into gear through the third quarter and scored four points in a row before Ciaran Doyle scored their third goal in the 46th minute when he pounced on the rebound after goalkeeper Charlie Carroll couldn’t hold on to Ryan Sinkey’s shot.

Eadestown pulled a goal back in the 50th minute through a Ben Fitzsimons penalty and had a great chance of another straight from the kickout but Ben Nichol dragged his shot inches wide of the post.

Naas wrapped up the win in the 56th minute when Brian Byrne set up Jack McKevitt for a fourth goal, and Kirwan brought hit tally to 1-8 with a two-pointer shortly after.
