Portlaoise Courthouse

JUDGE Andrew Cody was none too pleased at Portlaoise District Court when a juvenile failed to appear before him.

The 15-year old, who cannot be identified because of his age, had been summoned to appear to answer to the theft of a box of Pringles valued at €3.50 from Lidl, Portlaoise on 7 July last year.

However, when his name was called and he was not present, it prompted Judge Cody to say: “Gardaí had to go out to his home. The time and petrol it took was more than the cost of the €3.50 box of Pringles.” He adjourned the case and instructed gardaí to notify the juvenile’s mother of her son’s next day in court.
