There was mild confusion between a defendant’s name and status in a seven-year-old case of no insurance and drink driving.

“And he’s a juvenile?” asked Judge Desmond Zaidan, a tad incredulously.

“His name is ‘Juvenile’. Confirmed,” said Inspector Bobby Feery, in the case of Juvenile d’Souza (56), of Cluanmore Lodge, Kildare town, who appeared in court in the dock under escort.

He had earlier explained how colleagues had found a car crashed into a garden wall at Wheelam Cross, Milltown on 2 December back in 2018.

“It was juvenile behaviour,” quipped defending solicitor Seamus Boyle of his client who was pleading guilty to the three charges of driving without insurance, driving while under the influence of alcohol, and failing to produce the proper documents when required to.

“Two, three, or four years?” asked the judge.

“Two years,” said the Inspector.

“Any priors?” asked the judge.

“One for NCT in 2017, and one for no insurance in 2016,” said the Inspector.

“Why is he in custody?” asked the judge.

The court was told the defendant was currently serving a four-year sentence for sexual assault.

The judge accepted that, and banned Mr d’Souza from driving for two years, and extended this to four years on the drink driving charge.

“I’ll leave it at that” concluded the judge.
