A total of 14 charities and community groups have become the latest beneficiaries of ALDI’s Community Grants programme, with each organisation receiving gift cards from the ALDI store, office and warehouse colleagues in Co Kildare.
Receiving €500 ALDI gift cards are Athy Youth Project, Irish Wheelchair Association Clane, Balyna Community First Responders, Cystic Fibrosis Ireland (two nominations), Maynooth Autism Friendly Town Committee, Kildare Youth Project, Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation, Irish Cancer Society, Barnardos, Children’s Health Foundation, Samaritans Newbridge & Kildare, Blood Bikes Leinster and Féileacáin.
For 2024, to coincide with ALDI Ireland’s 25th anniversary, the retailer has also selected 26 charities and community groups, one per county, to receive an additional support of €2,000 worth of ALDI gift cards, bringing the total donation to those chosen organisations to €2,500. In Co Kildare, Naas Child & Family Project has been chosen to receive this award.
ALDI’s Community Grants programme helps fund local charities and community organisations that contribute vital work and services in their local communities. Each local organisation supported is chosen by ALDI employees, enabling them to help the local good causes they are passionate about.
By the end of 2024, the programme will have provided €758,000 in donations to more than 1,000 local charity branches and community groups across Ireland since its inception in 2016.
“We are delighted to continue to support local charities and community groups across the country through the ALDI Community Grants programme and to see the impact of our donation in the local communities of County Kildare,” said Rachel Nugent, National Sustainability Manager, ALDI Ireland.
“The Community Grants programme is one example of how ALDI is committed to investing and partnering with local communities and charities across Ireland and we look forward to continuing this engagement for years to come.”
ALDI operates nine stores, a regional distribution centre and a head office facility in Kildare. To date, the stores have donated more than 88,600 meals to local charities through ALDI’s partnership with FoodCloud, avoiding a total of 119,000kg of CO2e.
ALDI partners with 12 innovative Kildare food and drink producers, spending €22 million with them in 2023.
