Access issues raised at St Conleth’s car park

The entrance to St Conleth's car park by the Newbridge Town Hall was the topic of discussion at a recent meeting Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting

KILDARE County Council’s design and costing plans are underway for improvements to the ease of access in and out of St Conleth’s Car Park in Newbridge.

Cllr Chris Pender brought forward a motion in last week’s Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting to reconfigure access points to St Conleth's Car Park in Newbridge to reduce congestion and improve pedestrian access.

It is Cllr Pender’s hope that the current exit will be converted to a “solely pedestrian access point”.

He also proposes that the area near the current entrance is utilised to accommodate an additional exit to keep pedestrians and cars apart for the improvement of traffic circulation and the enhancement of pedestrian safety.

Over the past year, the Strategic Projects and Public Realm (SPPR) team has worked closely with cathaoirleach Peggy O’Dwyer and the municipal district engineer to progress a pedestrian connection from the car park to Main Street but this would pedestrians and cars would share access.

Cllr Pender contends that his motion is considered in the further design process and plans.
