An Bord Pleanála rejects plans for 56 Naas apartments

Stock planning

PLANS to build 56 residential units off Corban’s Lane have been halted by An Bord Pleanála, even after Kildare County Council gave it the green light. A firm called Whistlebrook Ltd was given permission to build the apartments (including three semi-detached houses, and three commercial units) last February at a site north west of Millbrook Villas and Meánscoil Iognáid Rís on a site slightly bigger than half a hectare (1.27ac). However, following an appeal from three potential neighbours to the development the planning overseers agreed with the complainants and overrode the local authority’s permission. Firstly, “it would produce a cramped and sub-standard development on the site at a density that would be inconsistent with the prevailing density in the vicinity”. Secondly, it was deemed “contrary to the zoning objectives of the County Development Plan” for the location, concerning the planned parking.
