Aontú pick Melissa Byrne for Kildare South

Melissa Byrne, Aontú candidate
Kilcullen woman Melissa Byrne (25), has been chosen as the Aontú candidate for Kildare South in the upcoming General Election.
Ms Byrne missed out on a seat in the local elections in June by small margins and was eliminated on the 12th count after several recounts that garnered national attention.
She recently graduated from Maynooth University with a first-class honours degree in English and Anthropology and she currently works as an outreach officer for ‘Students for Life,’ engaging in advocacy and volunteer initiatives.
“I’m anxious to explore opportunities to create recreational spaces for teenagers, such as a skate park, while pursuing funding for the redevelopment of Market Square to host concerts, markets, and other events in collaboration with other already successful ventures like Kilcullen cinema. We truly can do so much more with our beautiful town,” said Melissa.
“I’m passionate about promoting eco-friendly practices, support independent and small businesses, and enhance arts and cultural initiatives in both Newbridge and Kilcullen, alongside addressing general upkeep and improvement needs."
