KILDARE County Council has announced the launch of round two of the Community Climate Action Programme, a grant initiative designed to help local communities take meaningful action on climate change.
A total of €897,000 has been allocated by the Department of Climate, Energy, and the Environment to support eligible projects led by community groups, sports clubs, residents’ associations, and local organisations across County Kildare.
Through this programme, communities can apply for financial support to implement initiatives such as community energy efficiency projects, biodiversity enhancement, waste prevention, circular economy activities, nature-based solutions and sustainable transport measures. The programme aims to reduce emissions, build resilience, and inspire climate action at a local level.

Eligible communities must be: not-for-profit; located in the operational area of Kildare County Council and registered with the PPN, or connected with other collectives such as the Wheel, Tidy Towns and /or a community group with articles of association or a constitution, which hold an AGM, and for which approved minutes are available.
Stephen O’Reilly, community climate action officer, Kildare County Council said: “Following a strong first round, Kildare County Council is inviting applications for round two. With €897,000 available again, we aim to support practical, locally focused projects that deliver clear community and climate benefits. For many groups, their work would not be possible without this funding, and we look forward to meeting potential applicants at the upcoming October library clinics.” Applications are open for the community climate action programme from 28 October to 22 December.
To support applicants, Mr O’Reilly will host drop-in library clinics across the county throughout October. These sessions will offer practical guidance on eligibility and project ideas and provide time to talk through the application and delivery process.
