AN alleged graffitist who did an estimated €4,000 worth of damage to property in Newbridge had a bench warrant issued for him after he failed to show up for his court date.
Jamie Ponisi (30) with an address at The Cedars, Green Avenue, Naas was due to appear in Naas District Court recently charged with seven counts of criminal damage on Anne Street, Newbridge on 11 May.
“It was a number of commercial properties in the town,” said Sergeant Dave Hanrahan, before he revealed the accumulated total.
“€4,000 is a lot of spray-painted graffiti,” noted Judge Desmond Zaidan, looking around for an appearance before turning to defending solicitor Joe Coonan.
“He’s not here, judge. I don’t know why he isn’t here,” shrugged an apologetic Mr Coonan.
Accepting Mr Coonan’s predicament, Judge Zaidan quickly issued a bench warrant for Mr Ponisi’s arrest on the say-so of Sgt Hanrahan.
