Housing units for the elderly have been confirmed on the Dominican Lands in Athy.

Cllr Brian Dooley sought clarity on the timeline for the Clúid housing units in the last Athy MD meeting.

In response, the council confirmed that the design has been finalised in collaboration with Clúid Housing.

The project will proceed through the Part 8 planning process, with a briefing to be provided to council members before the official launch.

According to the council’s timeline, construction is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2026. This development is part of ongoing efforts to provide suitable housing for older residents in the community.

Cllr Dooley said: “I’m happy with the response. It’s a unique opportunity we have for providing housing to older people in the centre.”

He concluded: “I’m delighted, this is very much welcomed."
