Big turnout in Castledermot to wish Aaron the best in the Paralympics

Family, friends and well-wishers packed out Teach Diarmada on Tuesday to wish Aaron Shorten the best of luck before he headed off for Paris ahead of competing at his first Paralymics.
Aaron, who has been a member of the St Laurence O'Toole club for many years, was interviewed live on air by Radio Castldermot's John Phelan and many of his family and previous teachers spoke about their pride at seeing Aaron representing his Ireland at the highest level.
Aaron came through the Athletics Ireland Juvenile system to Senior, having won 10 All Ireland National titles at Juvenile level. He made his International debut at the 2023 Para Athletics World Championships in Paris where he ran in his preferred event the 1500m (T20). He is a member of St. Laurance O’ Toole’s Athletic Club.
Aaron will compete in the T20 1,500M in the Stade de France at 9.43am (Irish time) on 6 September.
