Cliff Reid informs the Kildare Nationalist that work is progressing on the barge ‘saoirse ar an uisce,’ which is currently moored on the Barrow quay. Cliff will be moving it to the dry dock on the canal in the next few weeks, where a full review of the repairs necessary will be carried out.

There are some engine issues and a few minor leaks that need attention, nevertheless Cliff is aiming to have the barge ready for visitor trips on the beautiful river Barrow early in June.

Cliff is determined that the barge remains in Athy for the benefit of the townspeople, he sees it as enhancing the work and redevelopment of Emily Square and another positive attribute for the town.

Cliff started BoaTrips.ie in the Marble City six years ago and it has proven to be one of the most popular tourist attractions in Kilkenny city with locals and visitors alike, such has been the demand that he now has two boats on the river. Trips recommence on 12 April and bookings are available on BoaTrips.ie.
