A CALL has been made for the inclusion of new bus stops on the Athy to Newbridge bus route.

At the most recent Athy Municipal District meeting, cllr Veralouise Behan asked the council about updating the bus route to incorporate stops at Blackditch and Kildoon, which are currently underserved by public transport links.

In response to the motion, a senior engineer in sustainable transport and traffic management confirmed that the request will be forwarded to Local Link for consideration.

Kildare County Council will also support the assessment process to determine the viability of the proposed stop locations.

Cllr Behan described the move as an important step in improving rural connectivity and ensuring equitable access to public transport for residents in more remote parts of the county. She said: “It would be great to open up south Kildare to the rest of the county. It would be great to get some movement on it.”
