Call for former Monasterevin school to be repurposed
Monasterevin
KILDARE County Council is to seek clarity on plans for the old St Paul's Secondary School in Monasterevin, with a view to having it repurposed for community use.
The matter was discussed on a motion from Cllr Pat Balfe at the recent meeting of the Kildare-Newbridge MD, which asked that the Kildare and Leighlin Trust and the Department of Education be queried regarding the ownership and future use of the school buildings and lands.
Cllr Balfe said that losing the property would be a significant loss at a time when the community is growing, and that it could be used for meetings and other community and recreational purposes.
Councillors agreed that the trust and the parish priest would be written to for clarification.
