THE NEED for improved motorway access to Newbridge was raised at the Kildare-Newbridge MD meeting.
Cllr Tracey O’Dwyer questioned whether Kildare County Council has engaged with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) on the development of a slip road off the M9/M7 to serve the growing town.
In response, Daragh Conlan, Acting Senior Engineer with the Transport, Mobility and Open Spaces Department, confirmed that while the Kildare County Development Plan 2023–2029 has identified the upgrade of this junction as a key objective, the project is not currently included in the council’s Capital Programme for 2025–2027.
Cllr O’Dwyer said: “I don’t think my question has been answered. Can I take it that the council has not engaged with TII about this?”
A council representative clarified: “It’s not in the pipeline at the moment. This wouldn’t even be in consideration.
