Staff and students at Scoil Diarmada in Castledermot have made a fantastic public display of support for a local athlete competing at his first Paralympics.

Aaron Shorten came through the Athletics Ireland Juvenile system to Senior, having won 10 All Ireland National titles at Juvenile level.

He made his International debut at the 2023 Para Athletics World Championships in Paris where he ran in his preferred event the 1500m (T20). He is a member of St Laurance O’ Toole’s Athletic Club.

Aaron will compete in the T20 1,500M in the Stade de France in Paris at 9.43am (Irish time) on 6 September.

Family, friends and well-wishers packed out Teach Diarmada in Castledermot on Tuesday 27 August to wish Aaron the best of luck before he headed off for the French capital.
