Claim that Kildare road is causing damage to vehicles
The road is allegedly impacting school attendance
KILDARE County Council has committed to conducting an assessment of the road surface at Lackagh Village, in response to community concerns about road conditions in the area.
In a motion before a recent meeting of Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District cllr Pat Balfe requested that an assessment be carried out on the road surface in Lackagh village, between Monasterevin and Rathangan, focusing on its condition, safety and accessibility. The motion also urged that any necessary resurfacing works identified be included in the council’s 2026 plan of works.
Cllr Balfe said the road's condition had been causing damage to cars. He also highlighted the local national school with 170 students.
Cllr Noel Connolly seconded the motion, looking for a long-term solution to the road.
He said: “The road has been patched that many times it looks like a patch work quilt.”
Cllr Brian O’Loughlin also supported the motion, adding the negative impact the road conditions have had on school attendance.
In response, the council confirmed that it will conduct an assessment of the road surface at the location. Officials said the area will then be considered for resurfacing, subject to funding.
