Closure of Kildare junction is 'extremely disappointing'

The Ladytow/Newhall junction
There was disappointment at the discovery of a decision to close the Ladytown junction by Kildare County Council.
Remedial works for the junction had been planned previously, with cllr Robert Power writing on Facebook some years ago that: “the council have confirmed that designs are now being progressed for a new layout at the Ladytown/Newhall junction.
"I’ve raised the issue of safety at this junction previously and am pleased to say plans for a roundabout are not being put forward.”
Cllr Power brought the issue back into focus, asking engineer Daragh Conlan for an update on the junction after a roads presentation.
It was revealed that the junction is to be closed with no update provided for it in the presentation.
He said: “I think that this would be worth an update."
He condemned the council for attempting to “pull the wool over our eyes”, calling it “extremely disappointing.”
Cllr Noel Heavey shared cllr Power’s dissatisfaction and said: “It’s disappointing to find out about it this way.”
Cllr Power has concerns over where the allocated funds for the initial redevelopment of the junction will go now that it is to be closed and intended to raise the question before the full council next week.
