Construction of Athy apartments to begin in June

THE construction of new apartment units in Athy is set to begin next month.
At the latest meeting of Athy Municipal District on 18 May, cllr Aoife Breslin asked the council for an update on the proposed apartment units at Covent Lane in the town.
Convent Lane is just off Duke Street in the centre of the town.
The housing capital team’s said that Clúid, the Approved Housing Body responsible for the apartments, has told the council it expects contractors to begin work on site in June.
Speaking at the meeting, cllr Breslin said she was “glad” construction is beginning, but added she had expected the units to be built at this stage and and that the project was behind schedule.
The councillor said the apartments are “badly needed”, particularly for the older people.
