NAAS Roads Policing Unit recently stopped a “suspicious” driver on the M7, discovering that the person they had pulled over was disqualified from driving for an astonishing 75 years.

The vehicle initially drew attention prompting gardaí to carry out what they expected to be a standard check. However, the situation quickly escalated when it emerged that the driver was disqualified from driving since 2017 until 2092.

A garda spokesperson said: “At that point, they weren’t sure whether to check his licence or his birth certificate.”

Further checks revealed that the individual was also the subject of an outstanding committal warrant. He was subsequently arrested at the scene, charged, and taken into custody, where he is now serving time in Mountjoy Prison.

The vehicle involved has also been seized and removed from the road.

Gardaí have reminded the public of the importance of adhering to driving bans.

“Moral of the story: if you’re banned from driving until forever, maybe take the bus,” concluded the garda spokesperson.
