GARDAÍ from Naas Roads Policing Unit (RPU) have arrested a motorist who was four times over the legal alcohol limit following a three-vehicle road traffic collision in Caragh.

The incident occurred recently, with officers attending the scene of the collision where one driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drink driving. Tests later confirmed that the individual was well over the legal limit.

The driver has been charged with multiple offences and is due to appear before the courts in due course.

Gardaí have reminded the public that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence under the Road Traffic Acts, carrying severe penalties, including fines of up to €5,000, disqualification from driving for between three months and six years, possible imprisonment for up to six months, and a permanent criminal conviction.

They also issued a warning to motorists: even a small amount of alcohol can impair driving ability.

“Never drink and drive — the risk is never worth it,” a Garda spokesperson said.
