Driver without insurance tests positive for cocaine in Kildare

A driver was found without insurance by Kildare gardaí and also tested positive for cocaine recently.
Gardaí in Kildare reported on social media that the Naas Roads Policing Unit stopped a vehicle in Newbridge following an ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) alert indicating no insurance.
‘Further checks using the Garda Mobility App confirmed the vehicle’s insurance had expired in November 2024. The driver was also subjected to a roadside drug test, which returned positive results for cocaine and cannabis.
‘The driver was arrested for drug driving, and the vehicle was impounded under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act.
‘The individual will face a court appearance in due course for drug driving and driving without valid insurance.’
