MOTORISTS across North Kildare have been warned to slow down after a series of alarming speeding offences were detected during the recent Bank Holiday Road Safety Enforcement Campaign.

The Naas Roads Policing Unit carried out speed checks on Monday, uncovering multiple instances of vehicles travelling at what officers described as excessive and dangerous speeds.

Speeds of well over 100km were recorded in 80km zones, and speeds of over 80km were recorded in 60km zones.

Kildare gardaí stress that the issue should concern every road user.

“Speed limits are not targets,” a garda spokesperson said.

“Road, weather and traffic conditions require constant judgement from drivers.”

Gardaí emphasised that driving too fast for conditions significantly increases the risk of serious collisions and urged motorists to reduce speed, remain alert, and act responsibly on the roads.

Each driver found to be speeding was issued with a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice of €160 along with three penalty points.

The Roads Policing Unit has confirmed that enforcement operations will continue in the coming week.
