THERE has been a call to address ongoing issues with faulty public lighting in Newbridge housing estates and along local roads in the Roseberry area.

At the most recent Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, cathaoirleach Noel Heavey tabled a motion highlighting what he described as the “unacceptable timeline” for the repair or replacement of lights in the Roseberry area. Cllr Heavey urged the council to press the responsible authority to resolve the matter within a month.

In response, senior engineer from the sustainable transport section of Kildare County Council said that if councillors were in agreement, the council would write to ESB Networks to raise the concerns.

He added that extensive discussions are already underway between the council, its maintenance contractor, and ESB Networks in order to carry out the necessary works and restore lighting in the affected areas.

Cllr Heavey agreed to writing to the ESB. Cllr Peggy O’Dwyer weighed in on the issue and reminded the room that the lights in the area went out in November last year and called it “not good enough.”
