First anniversary mass of Kildare Town man Ryan Weir Gibbons

FAMILY, friends and members of the Kildare Town community are being invited to come together to remember Ryan “Gibby” Gibbons on the first anniversary of his passing.

A first anniversary Mass will be held on 24 October at 6.30pm at St Brigid’s Church, Kildare Town, offering an opportunity for those who knew Ryan to gather in prayer, reflection and remembrance.

Ryan, who was 29, died on 30 October 2025 after sustaining a serious brain injury during an assault in Kildare Town on 26 October.

Earlier this year, Ryan Murphy, 19, of Curragh Plains, was sentenced to five years in prison at Naas Circuit Court after pleading guilty to the manslaughter of Mr Weir Gibbons.

In a statement after the sentencing, Ryan’s sister Nicole said the family wanted him to be remembered for “how he lived, not for the violence that ended his life”.

Describing Ryan as “bubbly, full of life” with an “infectious smile”, the family said he was a “messer” who loved making people laugh and was known affectionately as “Ryano” and “Gibby”.

The family has extended a warm invitation to Ryan’s friends, the wider Kildare Town community and anyone who knew and loved him to join them for the special Mass.

The gathering will provide an opportunity for family, friends and the community to commemorate Ryan’s life, share in remembrance and reflect on the many memories he left with those who knew him.

For those unable to attend in person, the Mass will also be available to watch online through the St Brigid’s Parish Church webcam. The family welcomes everyone who wishes to join them in remembering and celebrating Ryan’s life.
